After graduating as a Doctor of Medicine in Spain, Dr Romero trained in the UK as a psychiatrist and went on to practice psychiatry within the NHS. His subsequent co-founding of Cambian Group was in response to his realisation that there were some important unmet needs in the mental health sector:
Specifically the weak link between acute and community services. For Dr Romero, creating a bridge between the two was key to tackling the high relapse rates being experienced by individuals with mental health and/or behavioural needs at the time.

Cygnet Health Care
Cygnet Health Care’s recently rolled-out StRaW and TRiM programmes offer a peer support system designed to detect and prevent occupational mental health issues and boost the psychological resilience of an organisation. These in-house training programmes instruct practitioners in offering peer support so that staff members have access to an additional channel of help, should they need it. Cygnet Health Care was shortlisted for the 2022 HSJ Partnership Awards in the Workforce and Wellbeing Initiative of the Year category for its StRaW and TRiM programmes.

Under Dr Tony Romero’s stewardship, Cygnet Health Care also rolled out the Music 2 Empower initiative across a range of its services in October 2019. Music 2 Empower is about harnessing the power of music through therapy, promoting individuals’ social relations and ability to connect, and building confidence and self-esteem.
